Cheerleader with Pom-Poms??????

We have our computer back.Yay,I missed bragging about myself. It is addicting ;).

I have always wondered what kind of a flower this is.I painted it with Blue and Turquoise and the blending worked out wonderfully. The golden center adds a glow. But to me it looks like someone very beautiful and slender holding Pom-Poms.Am I the only one????Whether this flower has the same colors in reality or not I dont know, but I love the colors I chose.
If anyone knows what this flower is called, let me know.I would like to see if the real one is as beautiful as mine.

My laptop is not working since 3 days......and I have not been able to post.Fortunately we have an iPhone. So I am posting from my iPhone, but I can't upload photographs.....so I am stuck. We are trying to fix the laptop and then maybe I can upload some more of my paintings.
Wish me luck!!!!!

Potful of Flowers

I have come to the last embossed painting that I have done.Nothing much to say, though this seems simple it did take a while to make.I particularly like the shading on the pink flowers and the blue buds on the top.The pot that holds the flowers and vines turned out good.I think that making this potful of flowers was very thoughtful of me.I will start posting about glass paintings from tomorrow.Bye-bye for now!!!

Wedding Procession

I have never been in a wedding procession. In South-Indian culture there are not many people who have wedding processions, but a procession with the groom on a horse is a major part of North-Indian weddings. It is amazing how the huge group of people from the groom's side follow the groom on a horse, beautifully dressed and happily dancing to the wedding band's musical tunes. This is my first embossed painting is that of a procession that takes place after the wedding ,where the groom is taking his bride home.I wanted to glue some good kundans but did not find the time(I was doing kundan work on a Kalamkari patch then).I framed this myself.I just purchased some canvas framing pieces and upholstered the fabric. Then I glued a lace on the border.I love the frame more than the painting....because it was my idea of gluing a lace instead of painting a colour(as other frames usually are finished).
I have to frame all my other fabric art,but dont want to repeat the above. So I am trying to find a different way.....any ideas?????

Is it Love?......No,It's Dove,actually it's Doves!!!!!

Remember that ad on TV when " Dove" soap was introduced in India. It was tagged the costliest soap in India.I remember when a bar of  "Dove" soap costed 40 Rupees.Oh man,the power of human brain,I started thinking of a title for this painting and ended up talking about soaps.
Two beautiful doves totally in love!!!!!The technique of color blending in the blue flowers was suggested by my dear hubby. This is again a craft kit which includes a velvet cloth with the design on it,colors and brush and a palette.Seems easy ,yet takes a bit of skill to get good results.I have not framed the painting yet.I hope to do it soon.I suddenly realized that I end my every post with a "hope to paint/do " phrase. So today I will change it as say ,I will do it soon. :)

Flowers of Many Colours!!!!

So I am back to talk to about my paintings.Aha ....this one has a story .I found it on a fellow blogger's blogspot and fell in love with it.I just had to make it,so I took her permission and painted it.
I did not know that it was a design available in craft stores in India. When I found a Fabric Painting Kit in India with the same design...I purchased it and that is the post "Hues of Blue" on July 7th.Experimenting with designs, colors and mediums has become my "thing" now.I want to make the same painting in 2 different mediums, glass and fabric. There are so many paintings I want to make ....that I doubt if 24 hours in a day would be sufficient for me...... :) and now I want to make 2 of each,so God help me!!!!

Velvet Peacock

My new found interest is fabric. For the past few months I have been working with fabric.Painting,Embroidery and Sewing ,what was bound to happen was me painting a peacock on fabric. This is an embossed painting on a black velvet cloth. It is a craft kit that I found while in India.I tried to blend the colors and it worked out well.I think I am done with the "Peacocks" series for now......but craving to paint many more.I bid adieu with the hope of painting a Peacock very very soon.

Peacock on a Fountain

Oh My God, I just realised that my fascination with painting Peacocks started with this painting.
My husband found this glass painting in a book and photographed it for me.I just loved it and it was quite a challenge as this painting has a lot of details and I was a novice at this art.I painted about 20% of it when I hit a block, call it an artist's block or fear ,I put my brush down.It remained unfinished in my closet for over 6 months  much to my husband's chagrin. After a while I mustered enough courage to bring it out.I started painting it again and it took me about a month ( an hour per day) to finish. If you look closely the floral work around the peacock is detailed.Though it is my most detailed work ,it is not my best.
I feel I could do much much better, but I tried my best to reach this level.I hope you all like it.The stenciling on the corners of the frame also have been done by me(it was my first attempt at stenciling).Ciao!!!!

Perched Peacock

As promised(to myself) I  present the painting that I admire the most.I think I can brag a little about this one because I derived the most satisfaction from it.This painting is one of the many designs created by Tiffany Studios, by Louis Comfort Tiffany.Though mine is faux stained glass technique the outcome is very grand.
The beautiful peacock perched on a wall with Wisteria blooming around the columns and a background of sailboats on the sea is very majestic.  There is a more elaborate version of the same, which I hope to paint sometime. This painting would have taken weeks to complete if I was not on a schedule.I wanted to make this for a craft fair I participated in.I finished it in a record time of 3 days all the more reason to love it.
That's all folks!!!I will present my most detailed work till date next.

Peacocks

I love Peacocks!!! If I find any time to paint ,my preference would be to paint a Peacock and I have painted quite a few of them.I will present them in a series named "Peacocks".
The first one in the series is that of a "Kalamkari" Peacock.
Kalamkari is one of the many different styles of folk painting in India ."Kalam" means "Pen" and "Kari" means "craftsmanship"...aptly named so because this art is done using a special pen and completely hand-painted with vegetable dyes. These paintings go through a series of colorings and washings to get to an end result.Very eco-friendly as they use natural dyes and cotton fabric as the medium.
There are hundreds of designs in this folkart, mainly Hindu deities and mythical creatures.

My forte is glass painting and since I have been fascinated with "Kalamkari" for a long time,I incorporated this style and design on to glass. The hues and shades of colors are unique to Kalamkari.I am very proud of the outcome as the shades are very close to an actual Kalamkari Painting.Next in the Kalamkari series I would like to paint the "Hamsa" meaning Swan.I hope to be able to do it in the near future.

In the series of "Peacocks", I will present a Tiffany style peacock next......I am very eager to share it ,but will wait till tomorrow as they say "Patience is a virtue" and I would like to practise it.

Hues of Blue

As I posted previously my new found interest is fabric.I attended a course for Fabric Painting in 2009 and since then have not really been able to apply my newly acquired skills.Luckily I found time now to make a few.Today have a look see at this painting on velvet fabric ,technique being Emboss Painting.I browse the internet for inspiration and I found this design on another blogger's website and was totally mesmerized by it.I just had to make it.I did it on glass and then found this design kit in India and just could not resist.I could not wait to paint it.I tried out my fabric painting techniques ,rather than just filling up colors.I am very pleased with the outcome, though it could have been better(my reaction to every painting I make).Hopefully you will not feel that way.Enjoy!!!!

Hello baby!!!!!

Hi all I am back after a long long gap.Three words pretty much sum up my reason for absence:pregnancy, delivery and a baby.Coming to think of it I think one word suffices all:Baby!!!!!
I have been busy with the new "man" in my life and what a bundle he is.....a brother my daughter was waiting for and a son my hubby and I wanted and mostly the missing part of our family....he completed us.

For the past year and a half the closest I have been to anything creative is in diapering (while my baby moves)and making bibs and blankies for my li'l one.Now that he is 8 months old and very little (hopefully) further from settling down to a schedule ,I get time to get back to my painting.Glass paintings will have to wait though...now I am more into "fabrique",painting it and sewing it.
Will present my new paintings and old in the coming days and hope(for my sake)to be regular in my posts.
A special thanks to my friend Pranitha for reminding me of blogging(which was lying somewhere under a huge pile of diapers) :)

As big a responsibility a baby is ,it is a lot more fun, too. While I have a fun(hopefully) day with my son .....I think I can wait another day to post my artwork.
